When we started mesh in 2006, our goal was to create a Canadian event where people could discuss how the Web is changing how we live, work and play. It’s taken awhile but we are excited about taking mesh to Western Canada, starting with a one-day event in Calgary. The move to Western Canada reflects how communities across the country are embracing and leveraging the Web. Like mesh, meshwest is focused on offering insight and stimulating conversations about media, society, marketing and business. Led by opinion leaders and entrepreneurs, meshwest is an opportunity have thought-provoking and engaging conversations in which the attendees are involved as the speakers. meshwest is also designed to be a great places to meet new people and establish new connections.

During meshwest

Be sure to pack your laptop, camera, audio recorder and/or camcorder. We’ll have WIFI at the conference. Don’t forget your power adapters because we’ll have charging stations. You can record, photograph and film to your heart’s content. But it’s up to you to get the permission of anyone you you want to photograph, record or film. Unfortunately, everything that happens in Vancouver does not stay in Vancouver.

And we’ll connect you with folks that will challenge and inspire you.

This full day of conversation will give you the chance to share your ideas and experience with some of the best in the industry.

Who should attend?

If you are excited about the Web, looking to gain more insight and enhance your knowledge, you should come to meshwest. As much as we focus on having great content and speakers, meshwest is also about connecting and meet new people. We design meshwest to be interactive, engaging and insightful, making it a great opportunity for entrepreneurs, investors, marketers, public relation practitioners, non-profits and government employees.

This isn’t your typical pitch-us-a-speaker type of event (sorry).

The same is true for meshwest. This isn’t your typical pitch-us-a-speaker type of event (sorry).

We look for people we would like to hear from – and think you would like to hear from – and then we invite them to participate. In many cases, this means that we have spent up to 40+ hours investigating and vetting our line-up. This event is produced by people who are passionate about the web. As such, it is a highly curated. We are open to suggestions, but there is no call for papers or forms to complete.

Who’s behind mesh and meshwest? mesh was started in 2006 by five friends (aka the mesh gang) – Mark Evans, Rob Hyndman, Mathew Ingram, Michael MacDerment and Stuart MacDonald – who believed Canada needed an event in which people could discuss what was happening on the Web. Despite having no event or conference planning experience, mesh was launched. Over the past five years, we’ve attracted great speakers and sponsors, sold out every year, and expanded by adding meshMarketing in 2009. And now we’re totally stoked about launching meshwest.

meshwest is a one-day event about what’s next online for marketers, entrepreneurs, the media and citizens. Join us to connect, share and be inspired.
